- What is a traditional Turkish hammam?
- A hammam is a bathing house built around a central heated marble platform, with domed rooms and marble basins around it. The rhythm of the visit — warmth, water, scrub, foam and rest — comes from the bathing culture of the Ottoman world, which grew out of Roman and Byzantine baths. See the hammam room by room.
- Do I need to reserve in advance?
- A reservation is recommended, especially at weekends. WhatsApp is the fastest way to book; you can also call, send an email or use the form on this website.
- What is included in the price?
- Every hammam package includes unlimited time in the hammam, sauna and steam room, a full-body scrub, a traditional foam wash, a face mask and Turkish coffee or tea; a peştemal is provided. Keyf-i Hamam adds body care and a foam massage, and Sultan adds the private halvet and an extended foam massage.
- What should I wear inside the hammam?
- A peştemal is provided and worn throughout the visit. Simple swimwear underneath is welcome.
- What should I bring?
- Nothing is required. A hair tie is useful; leave jewellery and valuables safely in the changing area.
- How long does a visit take?
- The treatment time is 50, 60, and 70 minutes, depending on the package. Your time in the hammam, sauna and steam room is unlimited and comes on top of it. Massages last 30, 60, and 90 minutes.
- Is there a private option?
- Yes. The Sultan package includes the halvet, a private washing room with its own curtained entrance, for you alone or for you and your partner.
- Can couples visit together?
- Yes. Two of our massage rooms are made for couples, and every massage on the menu can be booked for two, side by side. Couples can also share the Sultan package's halvet.
- Can I choose a female or male therapist?
- Yes. You choose the gender of your therapist when you book. Female and male therapists are part of our team.
- Who are your therapists?
- Our therapists are certified and come to us from Bali, Indonesia, so the Balinese massage on our menu is given by therapists who grew up with that tradition.
- When was the building built?
- Büyük Hamam was created as an Ottoman bath between 1571 and 1590, on the site of a medieval church. It still works as a Turkish bath today.
- Where exactly is the hammam?
- İrfan Bey Sokak No:19, in the walled old city of Nicosia (Lefkoşa), on the street just behind Büyük Han — a five-minute walk from the Ledra Street crossing. Full directions are on the Plan Your Visit page.
- Is there parking nearby?
- Yes. If you come by car, use the car park beside Büyük Han; the hammam is a few steps away.
- What are your opening hours?
- Open every day 08:00–22:00.
- How do I pay for my visit?
- Reserve by WhatsApp — pay at the hammam. Share your preferred date and time and our team confirms your visit; you pay at reception when you arrive. Credit cards are accepted, and cash in euros, Turkish lira, US dollars or pounds sterling.
- Can children come to the hammam?
- Yes. Children under 16 are welcome with a parent or guardian and receive a 50% discount.
- How accessible is the entrance?
- Büyük Hamam is a historic building with stone thresholds and steps. Tell us when you book and we will plan your visit with you.
- What languages are spoken?
- English and Turkish are spoken at the hammam.
- Which is the best Turkish bath in Nicosia?
